Individually driven or steered wheels create a controlled lateral component of parcel movement within a conveyor line. Reliable transfer depends on parcel-base contact, spacing and downstream receiving geometry.
System boundary
A sorter is not a standalone mechanism. The following scope must be designed and accepted as one material-flow system.
- Wheel-divert modules and drive package
- Infeed spacing and conveyor speed control
- Detection, routing and divert timing
- Downstream conveyors and accumulation logic
Inputs required for configuration
- Stable-bottom parcel percentage and minimum footprint
- Required divert angle and line speed
- Parcel gap and consecutive-divert duty
- Downstream conveyor width, speed and accumulation
- Wheel access, contamination and replacement method
Questions to answer before selection
- Can every parcel maintain stable contact across the divert?
- Is the downstream conveyor ready to receive each discharge angle?
- How much accumulation is needed before and after the sorter?

- A controlled parcel-envelope drawing with minimum and maximum dimensions and weights.
- Sustained throughput assumptions, including induction efficiency, no-read and recirculation.
- Layout drawings showing structure, access, guarding, controls and maintenance clearance.
- A factory acceptance test plan linked to the representative parcel set.
- A commissioning boundary and documented spare-parts strategy for the local partner.
